Florida's first commercial theme park, Cypress Gardens, featured botanical gardens, water ski shows, Southern Belles, roller coasters, and thrill rides. It opened in 1936 near Winter Garden, Florida. The park was known as the Water ski capital, as many world records were broken there. Increased competition, unpredictable weather, and owner changes were some of the reasons for Cypress Gardens to close in 2009. The gardens are now preserved inside Legoland Florida.
